Ohio Fire Safety Coalition Campus Fire Watch

National kickoff Campus Fire Safety Month 2008

The launch of the fourth-annual National Campus Fire Safety Month will take place on September 9, 2008 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.  The 2008 campaign is being co-sponsored by Campus Firewatch, the Ohio Fire Safety Coalition and the Congressional Fire Services Institute to raise awareness on campuses and in communities across the country.  To date, over 40 organizations have joined with us supporting these efforts.

The Congressional co-sponsors for this launch are Congressman Bill Pascrell (NJ-8) and Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones (OH-11).  Both have been staunch supporters of campus fire safety and have introduced a number of bills, including the Campus Fire Safety Right-to-Know Act, the College Fire Prevention Act, the College Infrastructure Act and resolutions recognizing September as National Campus Fire Safety Month.

In addition, the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) will be holding their annual conference “One Voice – One Vision” in Washington that week and will feature Congresswoman Tubbs Jones, Campus Firewatch Publisher Ed Comeau Director of Education Justin Phillips from the People’s Burn Foundation as speakers.
